Now that the grey days have begun to outnumber the sunny ones, and as presence of rain becomes increasingly unremarkable, the very idea of summer already seems like a privileged indulgence. The once dismissible option of going to the beach any day of the week now breeds regret for the days we stayed inside, subconsciously thinking of sunshine as infinite. We are now left to scavenge for whatever scraps of the season we can find during stolen moments when a break in the clouds lets in the sun long enough to warm more than our skin.

It’s difficult to describe the music contained in this mix without using the term “chill out”, or evoking the island of Ibiza, but the sound is laid back, while taking notice of a trend in music that finds funk returning as a standalone genre and not just a descriptive term. The result is a selection of music that should perhaps only be available at a dispensary, and is apt to score the last few moments before summer fades to black.
