Hear Vancouver – Brett Kissel

Drawing early inspiration from the music of Johnny Cash, Brett Kissel felt compelled to follow a lifelong passion and pay homage to his country roots.

In 2013, Brett’s breakout single, ‘Started with a Song’ not only helped earn him a Juno Award for ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year’, but became the most added record on country radio across Canada, surpassing a record previously set by Taylor Swift.

Now a rising star in the world of country music, the 25-year-old singer sits down with Joe Leary and talks of his life thus far starting from his early days on an Alberta farm to pending fatherhood. He has performed on the hallowed stage of Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and appeared on WSM Radio’s legendary Grand Ole Opry.

In this exclusive Gazette video, Brett Kissel takes to the stage at Gulit and Co. and gives viewers a moving acoustic performance of ‘I Didn’t Fall in Love with Your Hair.’ It is an emotional tribute he wrote during his mother’s ongoing battle with cancer.
