Change is in the air.

Stephen Harper has served as Canada’s Prime Minister for almost 10 years. Over those years Canadians have experienced an erosion of freedoms at home, a diminished international role as a peacekeeper and beacon of disarmament, and widespread international scorn and disgust for becoming the industrialized nation with the worst environmental record. Canada can do better.

It is time for a new generation of leaders in this country. Leaders who put fairness and integrity first. It’s time Canada set its sights on becoming a world leader in science and civil liberties, the number one peacekeeping nation, and the nation that shows the world how the natural environment should be respected and defended. In this federal election it is apparent that the leader with the clearest vision for Canada is Justin Trudeau.

Both Thomas Mulcair and Steven Harper are offering differing solutions to today’s problems. Only Trudeau talks about tomorrow and the future of Canada. Leadership must not be reactionary. Leadership must be visionary. Leaders must give hope.

Canada hasn’t had a federal election inspired by hope since Pierre Trudeau campaigned on the theme of the Just Society in 1968. Today Canada is again at a crossroads. Canada is a rich, powerful and lucky nation. But we can no longer count on looking inward, having weak leaders, and being coached to fear each other. Canada needs a leader who sees the world clearly without being cynical.

Justin Trudeau cares passionately about the causes he believes in, without demonizing those who hold a different view. We respect him for choosing to enter public life and serve his nation. In this election campaign Trudeau has risen to the challenges presented. He has shown great energy and passion for Canada, and displayed the maturity of a statesman.

For these reasons, we endorse Justin Trudeau for Prime Minister of Canada and hope that his victory will be accompanied by a new Parliament willing to work for the policies that Canadians need.
